Built in 1858, Maison Smith, at the entrance of Mont-Royal Park, is one of the few vestiges of the mountain’s rural history. In 1989, the city signed an agreement with Les amis de la montagne entrusting it with the long-term management of this historic house as part of efforts to protect and preserve Mont Royal.

The new Mont Royal exhibition is displayed throughout historic Maison Smith, inviting visitors to discover the mountain's historic, landscape and built heritage, as well as its flora and fauna. Through dynamic exhibits, historic photos and mural illustrations, artefacts, audio-visual elements, interactive games and touch-screens, "Mont Royal, A Territory to Discover" offers visitors the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the mountain territory prior to heading outdoors.
